Dr. Tyler Youn, DDS · Lead Dentist · DDS

Dr. Tyler Youn, DDS leads Willis Family Dentistry Waynesboro with a calm, gentle approach and a clear philosophy: uncompromising quality care delivered without rushing the person in the chair. A second-generation dentist trained in modern minimally invasive and preventative techniques, he is here for the long term — for the families of Waynesboro and the eastern Shenandoah Valley.

Calm, attentive dentistry — built on long-term relationships.

Dr. Youn is a general dentist who is passionate about delivering uncompromising quality care with a gentle touch. He earned his DDS from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 2020 and went on to complete an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at the University of the Pacific in 2021. That training has instilled a strong appreciation for every part of general dentistry — with extra depth in modern minimally invasive and preventative techniques.

Dr. Youn is a second-generation dentist. He has been preparing to deliver excellent and ethical care his whole life, and his greatest joys are restoring smiles and helping his patients understand more about their oral health. He stays current on advanced research and modern technologies in an evidence-based way — never the latest gimmick, always what's best for the patient.

He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry. Outside the office, he loves getting outdoors — backpacking, camping, hiking, or a simple walk with his Boston terrier, Jan. Waynesboro, with the Blue Ridge Parkway, the South River Greenway, and the Appalachian Trail all within a few miles, was an easy place to call home.

Whether your last cleaning was six months ago or six years ago, Dr. Youn would like to be your dentist for the next decade.

Common questions

What does DDS mean? Is it different from DMD?
DDS stands for Doctor of Dental Surgery and DMD stands for Doctor of Medical Dentistry (or Dental Medicine). They are equivalent degrees and require the same training — most US dental schools award one or the other based on tradition. Dr. Youn earned his DDS from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 2020.
Where did Dr. Youn train?
Dr. Tyler Youn earned his DDS from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 2020 and completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at the University of the Pacific in 2021. The residency added another year of focused training in restorative, surgical, and minimally invasive dentistry.
What kinds of treatment does Dr. Youn perform?
Comprehensive general dentistry — cleanings and exams, fillings, crowns, bridges, root canals, extractions, dentures, dental implants, Invisalign clear aligners, sedation dentistry (nitrous and oral), pediatric dentistry, and emergency care. For procedures outside his scope, he refers to trusted specialists in the area.
Is Dr. Youn accepting new patients?
Yes. New patients of all ages are welcome at our Pelham Drive office, including patients without dental insurance — we offer Virginia Dental Club for those who would prefer membership-based care. Call 540-943-9703 or use our online appointment request to schedule.
What is Dr. Youn's approach to treatment?
Calm, unhurried, and conservative. He believes the most important skill in dentistry is listening — to your goals, your concerns, and what you have been through with previous offices. He stays current on advanced techniques in an evidence-based way, never the latest gimmick. His goal is to be your dentist for the next decade, not just for one visit.
