New Patients

Your First Visit

Your first visit establishes the foundation for our relationship with you. The goal is simple: get to know each other and answer your questions.

What we’ll cover

We start by gathering your medical history and listening to what brought you in. You’ll have time to share concerns, questions, or anything that’s been on your mind. Dr. Youn then completes a comprehensive exam — charting your teeth and existing restorations, evaluating your gums, and screening for oral cancer.

A plan that fits you

Once we’ve looked everything over, we walk through what we found and what we’d recommend — in plain language, with the reasoning. There’s no pressure to do anything that day beyond what makes sense to you.

Save time before you arrive

Print or complete your patient forms in advance — that way you spend the visit talking with us, not filling out paperwork.

Frequently Asked

Common questions

How long does the first visit take?
Plan on 60 to 90 minutes for a comprehensive new-patient visit. That covers paperwork review, digital X-rays, a thorough exam, oral cancer screening, gum measurements, and a cleaning if your gums are healthy. Patients with a lot of dental history may need a follow-up visit for the cleaning.
What should I expect when I arrive?
A friendly welcome at the front desk, a tour if you would like one, and a quiet exam room with Dr. Youn and your hygienist. We will spend more time talking and listening than poking — most new patients say the first visit feels less rushed than expected.
Will I need X-rays?
Almost always for a new patient — we need a baseline. We use modern digital sensors that take about 80% less radiation than older film X-rays. If you have recent X-rays from a previous office and can have them transferred, we are happy to start with those.
Will I get a cleaning at my first visit?
If your gums are healthy, yes. If you have signs of periodontal disease or have not had a cleaning in over a year, your hygienist may recommend a more thorough deep cleaning at a follow-up visit, sometimes split across two appointments.
Will treatment happen at the first visit?
Usually no. The first visit is for getting to know you and understanding what is going on in your mouth — exam, X-rays, and cleaning when appropriate. Any treatment beyond that is scheduled separately so you have time to review the plan, costs, and options.
