Dental Implants

The Implant Process

A clear walkthrough of what to expect — from your first consultation through the final crown.

Step 1: Consultation

The first visit is a thorough exam, your medical history, photos, and a 3D scan so the case can be planned carefully. You’ll get a clear treatment plan and cost estimate before anything begins.

Step 2: Implant placement

At the placement visit, the titanium implant is gently inserted into the jawbone where the missing tooth was. Local anesthesia keeps you comfortable. Most patients say afterward that the visit was easier than expected.

Step 3: Healing

Over the next few months, your bone naturally grows around the implant and fuses to it — a process called osseointegration. You’ll have a temporary in place during this time.

Step 4: Final crown

Once healing is complete, an abutment is attached and a custom porcelain crown is bonded on top, shaded to match your other teeth. You leave with a replacement that looks and feels natural.

Frequently Asked

Common questions

What happens at my consultation?
An exam, a 3D CBCT scan of your jaw, photos, and a discussion of your goals. From those, Dr. Youn maps where the implant should go, whether you need any preparatory work (extraction, bone graft), and how long the full process will take. You leave with a written treatment plan and a firm cost estimate.
How long is each appointment?
Placement of a single implant usually takes about an hour. The crown delivery appointment is shorter — often 30 to 45 minutes. The longest part of the timeline is the months of healing in between, not chair time.
Is the placement procedure surgical?
Yes, but it is a minor in-office surgery under local anesthesia (with optional sedation). Most patients are surprised by how routine and uncomplicated the placement appointment feels.
What does recovery look like?
Plan on a quiet day or two after placement: soft foods, ibuprofen for soreness, and avoid hard chewing on that side. Most patients return to work the next day; some take 24 hours off. Final integration takes months but is invisible to daily life.
