Invisalign

How Invisalign Works

A series of clear aligners gently shifts your teeth into position — one tray at a time.

Step 1: Consultation

Dr. Youn takes photos and a digital scan of your teeth, talks through what you’d like to change, and confirms whether Invisalign is a good fit for your case.

Step 2: Custom plan

Your treatment plan is mapped out and sent to the Invisalign lab. The lab fabricates a series of custom-fit aligners — each one slightly different from the last.

Step 3: Wear and switch

You wear each set of aligners for about a week or two before swapping to the next set. Aligners are worn 20 to 22 hours a day — you only take them out to eat, drink anything other than water, and brush and floss.

Step 4: Check-ins and retainers

You’ll come in periodically so we can confirm everything is tracking. At the end of treatment, a retainer keeps your new smile in place.

Frequently Asked

Common questions

How does Invisalign actually move teeth?
Each aligner is shaped slightly differently from the previous one — about 0.25 mm of movement per set. The aligner applies precise, gentle pressure to specific teeth at specific times. Over weeks and months, those small movements add up to the final planned position.
How long is treatment?
Most adult cases take 6 to 18 months depending on complexity. Simple cosmetic cases (slightly crowded front teeth) can finish in three to six months; complex bite corrections take longer. We give you a clear estimate at your consult.
How often do I need to come in?
Most patients come in every six to ten weeks for a quick progress check. We use Invisalign's virtual care tools between visits, so you spend less time in the office than with traditional braces.
Will I need a retainer afterward?
Yes — every orthodontic case ends with retainers. Without them, teeth slowly drift back. Most patients wear retainers nightly for life.
